Grape spoon sweet
Grape spoon sweet 🍇 Glyko tou koutaliou, or spoon sweet, is a traditional way of preserving fruit (and even vegetables, olives, and more!). The fruit retains its shape and is cooked in syrup. I haven’t made this since I was in college and I’m so glad I did! Spooned over thick yogurt, it’s seriously amazing.
I got these grapes, the last of the season, at the farmers market. They were closing and I didn’t have cash. I asked the gentleman if he took card or Venmo. He didn’t but said I should take as much as I want 💕 I’m definitely bringing him some spoon sweet!

#RECIPE
3 lb (1.4kg) granulated sugar
3/4 cup (180ml) water
2 lemons
4 lb (1.9kg) green grapes, stems picked
_____
Peel several strips of lemon rind off of one lemon, avoiding the white pith. Juice both lemons and set aside.
Combine the sugar and water over medium heat in a heavy saucepan. Do not cover. Bring to a boil and simmer for 5 minutes. Add grapes and lemon peel and boil gently for about 45 minutes, skimming any foam that rises to the surface. Add lemon juice during the last 5 minutes of cooking. Grapes should keep their shape but become darker in color and wrinkly on the surface. Let cool slightly, then ladle into sterilized jars. Once cool, store jars in the refrigerator. Makes approximately four 18 oz (500g) jars.
