The Aegean Flip
Happy Greek Independence Day! Today marks 200 years since Greeks fought for independence from Ottoman rule. I wanted to mark the occasion with something fun and celebratory! I conjured up this strikingly blue cocktail to mimic the colors of not only the Greek flag but those that come to mind when most of us think of the beautiful blue waters of Greece. 🇬🇷
The flavors of Greece are present as well! I used @straydoggin which has notes of mastiha and orange. I added a hint of orange blossom water to accentuate that flavor even more. And the blue is not artificial! I have @frommydadsbakery to thank for the discovery of blue matcha, aka butterfly pea flower powder. It is how he colors his bread blue and I had never heard of it till I we connected here on IG!
I know it’s late in the day but better late than never!
Cheers and Xronia Polla!!! 💙💙💙

_____
**The Aegean Flip**
2 fl oz Stray Dog gin
3/4 fl oz simple syrup
1/4 oz orange blossom water
Scant 1/4 tsp butterfly pea flower powder (blue matcha)
1 egg white
Combine gin, syrup, orange blossom water, and flower powder with ice in a cocktail shaker. Shake vigorously for 30 to 45 seconds. Strain and discard ice. Add back to the shaker along with the egg white. Shake again vigorously for 1 minute, or until foamy. Serve in a chilled glass.
_____
**Use just 1/2 oz simple syrup if you want it a little less sweet
(This is not an ad, I had a bottle of Stray Dog gin and got creative! I think this gin makes the drink given its flavor profile but another gin could work just fine, too!)
